Veterans Day Gifts for Submarine Veterans: Gear With Their Boat Name and Hull Number
Updated: 2 days ago
Ask a submarine veteran for an old phone number and they might have to think about it. Ask for their hull number and you get it before you finish the question.
That is the gift. Not another flag mug from a big box store. Their boat, their hull number, on gear they will actually wear and use.

Why the boat matters
I spent 22 years in the Navy on submarines, in strategic weapons, and retired as a Senior Chief. A boat is not a duty station. It is a crew of about 150 people in a steel tube, months at a time, with no window and no mail.
You remember every one of them. So when we built this line, every piece starts with the one thing every submariner owns for life: the name and number of the boat.
Shirts
The Personalized Submarine Veteran Shirt carries the boat name and hull number over an original ballistic missile submarine silhouette. Fast attack sailors get their own version, the Fast Attack Submarine Veteran Shirt.
Commissioning crews earned a different title. The Plank Owner Submarine Shirt adds the boat, hull number and commissioning year. For the strategic weapons crowd, the Missile Technician Submarine Shirt carries name and boat.
The newest piece is the VAAR Submarine Veteran Shirt: boat name and hull number across the chest, and the VAAR flag with SERVICE EARNED BENEFITS on the left sleeve like a unit patch. It is also in our own store as the Submarine Veteran Shirt with sleeve print.
Mugs and wall art
For the coffee drinker (every submariner), the Personalized Submarine Veteran Mug puts the boat and hull number on both sides. Chiefs get the Submarine Chief Mug with name, boat and hull number.
For the den or the shop wall, the Personalized Submarine Poster is 18x24 with boat name, hull number, years served and name.
How personalization works
Every listing has a personalization box. Type the boat name and hull number exactly as you want them printed, for example USS NEVADA SSBN 733. I set every order myself and check the spelling before it prints.
Everything ships free in the US and is printed to order. Order by November 1 to be safe for Veterans Day on November 11.
A note on insignia
You will not find dolphins or official Navy insignia on these. Those are Navy trademarks and require a license. The art is original, and the boat name is what every submariner cares about most anyway. These products are not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Navy or Department of Defense.
