You invested in a beautiful wooden cutting board. Now you want it to last for years. The good news? Caring for a wood cutting board is simple — it just takes a little consistency.
Never Put It in the Dishwasher
The extreme heat, water exposure, and harsh detergents will warp, crack, and destroy even the highest-quality board. Never soak it in the sink either.
Daily Cleaning
Scrape off debris, wash with warm water and dish soap, scrub gently, rinse, dry immediately with a towel, and stand upright to air dry. Takes about 60 seconds.
Deep Cleaning
Coarse salt plus lemon as a scrubber. Baking soda paste for stains. White vinegar spray for sanitizing — keep White Vinegar Cleaning Spray near the sink.
Oiling: The Most Important Step
Use food-grade mineral oil like Food-Grade Mineral Oil for Cutting Boards. Never use olive oil or cooking oils — they go rancid. Apply to all surfaces, soak 2-4 hours, wipe excess. Oil monthly.
Board Conditioner
After oiling, apply Cutting Board Wax / Board Butter for a protective moisture-repelling layer.
Preventing Cracks and Warps
Oil all sides equally, dry standing upright, keep away from heat sources, and use rubber feet for airflow underneath.
